Support for prohibition
A TV3 poll found fifty percent support for banning tobacco. Maori Party MP Hone Harawira is apparently delighted. Many have obviously forgotten (or never learned) their lessons about prohibition and its effects.
But Lindsay, why not? I mean look at how successful prohibition is with illegal drugs. We now live in a drug free world thanks to prohibition. There are no massive profits to be made, no criminal gangs that reap those profits, no incentives to create more deadly illegal drugs, etc. There is no corruption of the police from it. Prohibition, like socialism, is a bloody success. Just ask the true believers in those causes.
