Mapp's bill will sink
Looks like Wayne Mapp's employment bill, which would see a 90-day probationary period introduced, has sunk. Pita Sharples is voting against it. That is a damn shame. A probationary period would have helped Maori in particular get a foot in the door. Without it there will be fewer opportunities.

Huh? What about all the employers that will just fire Maori because they're Maori under the sweeping new provisions that this bill would have granted?
I hate to play the man here but Sam... are you retarded?!
If there are really that many racist employers out there, do you think that under the current draconian employment laws they would even bother hiring Maori in the first place?
This bill will help Maori exponentially, especially those with criminal convictions. They will now be able to find jobs if an employer knows there is no lasting consequence to his or her business from hiring what they may perceive to be a high-risk employee.
Oh now I get it! The amendment is really about helping Maori. So the way to get it passed is to rename it the Maori Probationary Employment Bill and have it only apply to Maori right? Everyone knows that Maori don't need a real job.

Try thinking for a change Sam. Tosser.

I can't believe the level of hate in those responses. Blair and Brian, you should both be ashamed of what you wrote.
Cutting away the bile, I guess I see what you mean, but the bill is not targetted enough to first-time employees.
