So now we know that the Kahui house was a "party" house. Neighbours said it was difficult to tell how many people lived there because so many came and went. A small house which could have no more than three bedrooms with a media-reported 9 people living there. Broken windows, banged up boards, loud music. It makes me ill to know that two exceedingly vulnerable babies were taken to live there.

It is a shame. Government doesn't want to admit that some people are bad parents because of the values they hold. So they turn a blind eye and children die. Values matter. If you see a home like this the kids should not be there. But for parents like these the kids are a source of revenue. And Labour just wants to make it more lucrative for these people to have more children though they can't care for them.
And they want to stop parents from smacking.....
Why don't they focus on the real issues!
It's high time that child abuse in New Zealand was acknowledged for what it is--predominantly a Maori problem.
Pussyfooting around the edges of the issue is an army of bureaucrats, soaking up millions of dollars while all the time afraid to identify the group most responsible.
Maori need to stop using their race as a bludgeon to stifle criticism and to face up to their responsibilities.
