"Labour welfare policy a sham"
A variation on an earlier blog post published in today's NZ Herald on-line opinion page.

Wow I am surprised the Herald actually published it - judging from the number of comments that oppose your opinion I would say they did it by way of making it a "dog whistle" post!
We know that welfare exacerbates rather than resolves the problems but those who rely on some kind of welfare assistance to get by/to fund their bad choices (which, at a guess includes most left-wing posters) will hold onto it for dear life.
I also love how the same group of people call themselves taxpayers....funny!
When Labour introduced WFF they created a new demographic of hand outs - people who are unlikely to want to see that go so unless we see some smart policy where it gets reduced by stealth, it and the rest of the bulging welfare system is going tp be around until we become bankrupt.....which I would imagine is only a few years away!

Lindsay Mitchell has been researching and commenting on welfare since 2001. Many of her articles have been published in mainstream media and she has appeared on radio,tv and before select committees discussing issues relating to welfare. Lindsay is also an artist who works under commission and exhibits at Wellington, New Zealand, galleries.

Shows the Herald getting desperate with this one. It's been hurt over the "tea cup" saga so try something different.
I would argue that the National Party policy is also a sham.

I did a couple of weeks ago. I sent them a piece called National's Welfare Reforms - Lots of smoke but not much fire.
I try to share my criticism around:-)
Bravo, Lindsay! Well put. Particularly good of you to point out how statistics can be so misleading.
