Three killed in Gisborne

Yesterday there were radio reports about two domestic violence incidents in Gisborne but they have barely rated a mention in today's papers. Just small columns. Three killed, one woman is still fighting for her life in hospital.

I asked David if he knew about the killings in Gisborne and he responded, what killings in Gisborne? Life is becoming very cheap in some circles. Perhaps its lack of value is reflected in the media's lack of interest.

I used to believe there had to be a strong link between unemployment and crime.

One can't really support that right now - there are obviously other factors that are major contributors.

Is it that even though we have things to do and money to spend, we no longer feel in charge of our own lives?

Where is this anger coming from?

Why have we joined the other countries with crimes such as random bystander assault and killings?

One thing is very clear - 1000 ADDITIONAL police (not just replacing natural turnover) and a properly paid Police force would go a long way towards a solution.

Law and Order is a shameful stain on this Government's record.

Good idea, but that's not a solution, it's just a way to treat the symptoms of a greater problem.

In respect of these incidents I can't see how 1,000 extra police is going to reduce domestic violence. These are desperate, end of the road acts.
