The paper came late this morning and I have only just seen the cover story about Lillibing's mother.
Here is another sadly pathetic young mother who keeps getting pregnant when she can't cope.
The journalist says Matiaha played no part in her daughter Lillybing's death in 2000. I think in a passive way she did. She neglected her. She constantly left the child in the care of her Aunts without supplying nappies or food or clothing. Her crime was one of ommission. When Lillybing died Matiaha was in hospital with another younger baby ill with dehydration. I wonder what happened to that little girl?
Now we learn she had twins in February this year. Born prematurely one has suffered continuing illness and the other died this month. Cot death is suspected. Although the mother lives in Wellington the death happened in the Wairarapa. The child arrived dead at Masterton hospital. That is the second Matiaha baby that has arrived dead at Masterton Hospital. I feel for the staff.
The other twin has now been taken into state care.

You need to revisit your statement as stating the mother of this child is a, open quote ..."sadly pathetic young mother who keeps getting pregnant when she can't cope." close quote. Not providing needs such as nappies, food or clothing doesnt by any means show that the mother cannot cope, but common sense as child was left with her step sisters, they could have asked for the support, and in this case, the abusers did not confirm they had asked. By not providing these materials for the child, doesnt give any human being the right to miss-treat a toddler in the manner that Hinewaoriki was treated. Although the mother was tending to another childs medical needs, in no way, state or form should the miss-treatment of Hinewaoriki be reflected on the mother, as the child was in the care of the mothers step sisters. You could say that her judgement of trust with the abusers was poor, but the women we're her sisters, and did have mouths to speak up when they couldnt cope. Any mother that has gone through such traumatising experince has a big heart to move on in life, and to bear another child, in fact twins is of somewhat very strong of the mother, and have absolute support for her. Instead of living in the shadown of others mistakes, shes thought she could possibly make another childs life meaningful, and she has, and by bearing the children has absolute pure strength! My heart and prayers are with the mother at the moment, and if by any chance she reads this, know there is someone out there who isnt so pathetic to see the facts.
