Protest Day 8: Answer me this

Has there ever before been a protest to parliament that was stonewalled by every party?

What the heck is going on?

Where is the Maori Party when so many of the protestors are their whanau?

Where is the ACT Party when so many of the protestors are pleading for our legislated freedoms?

Where are the Greens, the very party of protest?

Where is Labour with a list ranking full of so-called activists?

Any ideas?

I can't be the only one thinking JUST GO AND TALK TO THEM!! Gah.

And what happens when the tow trucks are all blocked in? The idiots in charge have turned this into a game.

The problem is that all the Parties are being advised by PR ""specialists" who are stuck on ideological thinking. ie it will blow over and be forgotten in a week.

The PR gurus are not in touch with the country, they only look at polls and focus groups...

It would involve an impossible-to-execute flip-flop by party leaders because they have already gone all-in for the orthodoxy.

None could plausibly sell the drama that they have had a Road to Damascus vision.

The Flip will require a change of leadership. No more Ardern, no more Luxon, no more Seymour, no more Shaw. They like their goon jobs so hold the line. Likewise all potential replacements are donk deep in the 'Yes' part of this 'Yes, And' Game.

As an aside. The police are wearing masks and what I can't see are their identification numbers. Who are they???

They are so intimidated by the Labour smear media machine that they prefer to take a passive approach than take any action. It's cowardice really. Second, there is a Wellington culture/ideology that they all belong to, along with public servants and media.

I hope you are right Rick about the change of leadership - but I doubt it. The establishment protects itself.

ACT let an opportunity slide by by not going out in force and meeting the protesters.

I emailed David Seymour Sunday afternoon and told him so- also pointing out that ACT had a huge advantage over other parties because all of their MP's probably had gumboots.

This isn't the usual protest full of useful idiots.
This is real people, giving up real time at their own real expence to protest a real grievance happening right now.
Sweeping bullshit statements along the lines of “we commit to doing xyz by 2040“ aren’t going to cut it.
It is real, maybe too real, for the political/media/celebrity class to handle.

Perhaps if the stop with the abuse, death threats, law breaking, appeals for military coups and silly demands, and then move their campervans there can be a discussion. Until the they can bore themselves silly while wallowing in their own filth.

Judge,
Judge for yourself instead of propagating hearsay:

And if you are in Wellington go and look for yourself. I promise you won't be disappointed (unless you want to find violence and skullduggery).

David Seymour spoke to protest leaders today.

Judge Holden said...

Propaganda. Stop pretending counterspin isn't directing things.

Lindsay Mitchell said...

Judge, I don't even know who counterspin are/is.

Max, The protesters clearly want an end to the mandates. Unless David is on the same page he may as well say nothing. Laying down negotiating conditions like 'move your vehicles first' just associates ACT with more of the intransigence that has bolstered their resolve. In any case he is not part of this majority government.

In the wider electorate it may have been politically savvy to get Ardern and other parties to chastise him but I find his belated move quite cynical. Sorry because I don't want to fall out with normally like minds.

Who is paying you to propagate this nonsense? Welfare state IS sustainable if you
- raise taxes - and especially here implement decent estate duty and capital gains,
- drop GST and make the first $50K tax free - after that 90 cents in the dollar,
- stop private ownership of land - let all land be distributed by the state and returned to the state when no longer needed
- ensure that noone earns more that three times the living wage
and on the plus side - lift the living conditions of most people with a decent universal wage so that 'welfare' is not needed.

Judge Holden said...

Oh my. Then you don't really know anything about this do you? Astonishing.

Lindsay Mitchell said...

Me and hundreds of others down there. Not everybody is ensconced in social media. As I said, go and talk to them. What are you scared of?

Judge Holden said...

Well you're using Facebook to propagate the lie that this is a peaceful, loving protest, and then you're blogging about it, so you're pretty ensconced in social media. Did you see yhe video of the "security" thugs abusing the Police yesterday? So much love. Or the counterspin woman abusing reps from Save the Children? No? Too busy? Educate yourself.

Lindsay Mitchell said...

I was sent a facebook video of a policeman attesting to the good vibe in the crowd but I'm not active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and that's the only ones I know of. You are an angry man and that's all I have ever experienced of you. So, no thanks. I'll stay a bit naive and 'uneducated' re social media. Oh, and I am publishing your comments so there is nothing to stop you sending links to the violence you profess. If they portray what you describe I will also be appalled. But it doesn't change my own actual experience of the occupation.

Judge Holden said...

Fingers in ears, lalalalalala! Use the Google machine and type in counterspin media. They're live streaming their hatefest from your lawn of love. I suppose you haven't seen the slogans about jewcinda being Satan's daughter either? So much peace!

Max Ritchie said...

The haters at this protest are a tiny minority. The majority there are good natured and have a legitimate point of view. Short of violence how do they stop the haters? The odd (in all senses of the word - look at “unknown” above for whacky view) weirdo doesn’t alter the main thrust of the protest.

Lindsay Mitchell said...

You are correct Max. And I appreciate the hypocrisy of my own comment in questioning why there was no engagement from MPs and then criticising David. He must feel in a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' position. Ironically that is exactly how many of the protestors felt about getting vaccinated, or yielding to the coercion that mandates are.

Max Ritchie said...

There’s a good column in Stuff this morning about David Seymour’s interaction with the protesters. Damned do, damned don’t sums it up perfectly. It’d be interesting to know about all the conversations in Parliament between MPs of all parties, police and staff. Sometimes politics is difficult!

Judge Holden said...

A large group are dangerous nutters, a smaller group are just nutters being used by the dangerous nutters. When Covid starts to bite in there it's going to spread fast. You're triple vaxxed, right Lindsay?

pdm said...

Been there and had a look Judge? No didn't think so!!!

I suggest you stop trolling and do something positive and productive for a change.

Lindsay has walked among the protesters several times. Something you have obviously not done.

Are you even in Wellington?

Max Ritchie said...

According to people who’ve been there most of the crowd are normal people who have opinions strong enough to want to have a say. Including the police! Holden (a bit like a Stanley Steamer) has a different view but then some people still think the earth is flat. This issue has been badly handled mostly by Mallard - what a silly man - but also by Ardern. Wiser heads will prevail. The protest and the mandate will fizzle.

Judge Holden said...

You're not, you're just some carping old tory who tells lies from his basement in Hastings. The protestors are violent, abusive law breakers who want to see people die in large numbers for their so called freedom. Lindsay is a propagandist for them and deserves to be called out as such.

Mark Wahlberg said...

Big words Judge Holden but little squeaks when it comes to owning them with your name. If you dont have the courage to own your questionable convictions , what value do have?

Judge Holden said...

Lol. Righto Mark Wahlberg. My real name is Tom Cruise.

Mark Wahlberg said...

Great retort Tom, I read it to Tigerlil and she cracked up. It always puts a smile on my face when the Cat lady Laughs. But I think you're pulling my nail in an attempt to avoid addressing my comment. Which incidentally, stands unanswered beneath MY NAME.

Sure buddy. You were good in Date Night.
