A response to the Covid crisis strategy from Sir Ray Avery (if you haven't already seen it):
The most worrisome of words routinely used by Jacinda Adern, Ashley Bloomfield and Shaun Hendy is the rhetoric around New Zealand's mission to eradicate COVID-19 in New Zealand .
This has no scientific validity and if we continue on this course to get our infection rates down to zero then our country will become bankrupt for no good reason.

I see the latest ""amendment"to the meaning of Eliminate the virus trotted out by the PM at todays announcement. Eliminate doesnt actually mean eliminate any more :-)
It seems everything is a moving target.
Initially the lock down excuse was.... to quote the PM from 23rd March
""to contain the virus""
Then when the numbers started to look way lower than anyone forecast(read models)
She changed the rules to maintain the lockdown by changing the goal to ""eliminate"".
She is a brilliant PR person/selling the message, no arguments on that.
But then again the same can be said of snakeoil salesmen,
Yes I did note that elimination is now 'elimination of tolerance for Covid.' Slight difference I think.
Sir Ray Avery is a man with signifiant real world achievements - an example of what can be accomplished by people with fortitude and determination.
J. Ardern and her pointy headed gurus have never and will never do anything to match what Sir Ray has acomplished.
They might set New Zealand back a hundred years though
