NZ - The little engine that couldn't

NZ has always been  'the little engine that could.' It's endearing imagery but  also powerfully symbolic.

But thanks to our leadership and their reckless decision-making now compounded by dogmatic digging-in, we are fast becoming the little engine that couldn't.

Today exactly what many have predicted has begun. Pharmac backtracks on a cancer drug that could have saved 1,400 lives a year because, "it can no longer afford to make the investment." In a headlong rush to save the lives of an unknown but over-stated quantity,  the lives of a known number will be lost.

The economy, our very lifeblood, was all but switched off with no advice from people whose job it is to understand and appreciate  its criticality. I still can't work out why. Maybe Grant Robertson thought that NZ was  in a relatively strong position debt-wise and he could take risks, enormous risks with it. But I am dismayed and disgusted by how many people think it's a mere matter of switch off - switch on. Just like that. Hence their patronising chiding of the rest of us to 'just be patient. 'It's only a few more days in your bubble'. Or worse, their snitching to the authorities.

Hell's bells. Have these idiots (many deriving their security from Super or a public service salary)  really thought any further than the end of their twitchy noses? They seem incapable of joining the dots beyond just A to B. Austerity will come as a rude and rough shock and they will deserve it.

Everyone of us is a domino to some degree.

Many have all ready fallen over. Tragically, today it was lung cancer patient's turn

"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have."

Last night on the News they had the teachers complaining that they would have to go back to the classrooms next week and they were not sure they could keep the children "safe".

And I immediately realized that they are a group that have not, as yet, been economically disadvantaged by this lockdown.

But aren't we supposed to all be in this together and contribute what we can to overcoming this crisis?

And isn't opening the schools a first step in accomplishing that? Making it easier for other "essential services" to get up and running to full capacity?

If there is a concern by authority that there could be a problem and businesses must remain closed for fear of spread, for the life of me I cannot understand why they would even contemplate reopening schools.
In my time, school was a burgeoning cesspit of infection! If there was some lothesome disease going round the community, it was the kids that transported it to school, spread it round their classmates and then from there, back to the wider community.

With regard to the wider picture, Small businesses are just about history - the likelyhood of many managing to lever themselves out of the sump that has been created, is vanishingly small. The keys to the goldmine have been handed to big business supermarkets and frozen out the smaller retailers. Businesses such as the guy who uplifts my bag of greenwaste have been stopped in their tracks. This guy who uplifts mine at any time doesnt need to come within 60 metres of me.
Adern and co. have singlehandedly crippled our country. Dont get me wrong, the opposition would probably have done no better under the circumstances, but she and her minions are destroyers of nations! She has not balanced the scales between health and our economic well-being and future.

Nothing more terrifying than the words "I'm from the govt and I'm here to help"

The sad truth is OI the Government has made the biggest bungle of our lifetimes and are slowly coming to grips with the enormity of their mistake.

Now they need an exit plan and a way to slowly climb down without loosing face and this is the first baby step

According to the news tonight part of that plan is to give us all $1500 from the magical money tree

According to Grant Robertson the 'helicopter' money is only an option at this stage - thank goodness.

The expectation has been set - and it is an election year Lindsay

My guess is it will happen
