"A hot day on Taupo"

Just taking this off to the framer to enter into an exhibition called "Bringing the outside in". It's a pastel sketch from some photos I took on a recent Taupo trip.

Composition. Colour. I know you don't like realism Dirk. And I am even sympathetic to your sentiment. But there is a small matter of appealing to the people who will buy my work. Some want representational art.

Well I like photo realism, particularly landscapes. Few measure up. When they do, I can smell the scene, and feel the temperature, and the mood engulfs me.

Your portrait of Rodney Hide was excellent. You capture the eyes. Each of these ducks can see me and is ready to react to my movement.

I admire most in others what I cannot do myself. Your art speaks to me.

I agree with the person that says art "speaks" to the person contemplating it. Without being an art connossieur I've felt it many times at art galleries and museums.

The ducks are beautiful, just beautiful.

Lindsay your talent is obvious.
Forty years ago I was introduced to the works of Salvadore Dali and the mans work had a huge impact on my spiritual, political and social perspective of life in the world I live in.

You are a lateral thinker from a political/social perspective and i wonder what ART you could produce if you let go the shackles of the norm and let rip with some abstract interpretation on your thoughts. No offense intended.

Dirk.

No offence taken. I'm just not creative enough for abstract.

Seriously, you must not drive your Eldorado Cadillac into the Manawatu. I had the pleasure of being driven in one (1968 model I think, cream with red upholstery) from Oklahoma City to Chicago via Memphis. Luxurious ride and fantastic sound system way ahead of its time. The only problem was there were four of us and we filled the trunk with luggage while the convertible roof was up. You can imagine what happened when the driver depressed the automatic down-switch and there was no cavity for it, glass and all, to fill... Still we had a most enjoyable morning at Gracelands waiting for it to be repaired.
