New portraits

The first is philosopher and Austrian School economist, Ludwig von Mises. A life-size oil based on the following black and white photo:

 Then economist, Milton Friedman,

They're now on sale in the US at a relevant conference. Not actually sure what the name of it is. I was drawn to these particular shots as they portrayed men with warm and intelligent faces and the lighting on the subjects was perfect. A deadline meant I had to leave them a tad under-worked. A couple of things I'd like to slightly adjust but then I am never 100 percent happy with my paintings. The main thing is that the painting conveys what I was getting from the photograph.

Your subject matter is interesting but given your political views I'm not suprised. Stunning stuff. I trust you get the recognition your talent deserves.

The portrait of Friedman looks *remarkably* like Mikhail Gorbachev, I reckon. Pop a birthmark on his forehead and it'd be hard to tell the difference!

BTW, both portraits are excellent!

Why not have a go at Muldoon or Lange? Your talent is amazing, you're in the wrong day job!!

If I'm working towards an exhibition or running a temporary gallery (my last temporary gallery ran for 15 months) then art is my day job!

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Superb work, Lindsay. I get a sense of the contained energy in both men.

Can I dare ask what the prices are for these portraits, Lindsay? Do you show your work at any Auckland galleries? Truly inspiring work, such detail. How about one of Paula Bennett?

If I was commissioned, for something similar I'd charge around $800 depending on how much work is involved. The fee is down on what is was before the recession.

No I don't have any work in Auckland galleries. I've had three solo exhibitions at the Academy Galleries in Wgtn but of late I've only been doing commission work (bar these two portraits).

They didn't sell at the conference by the way so are still available for purchase.
