Ah. Too late for me to say, I told you so. Well, I can to my husband. But I didn't blog about my suspicion that the Turangi attack might be a gang-initiation act. There was no sign that the offender was mentally unstable, no record of him acting similarly in the past, no record of him interfering with other children from an early age, no previous sexual assaults. And the circumstances didn't describe a temptation that just happened to present itself. An ulterior motivation was the only explanation that made any sense to me.
And Turangi....
Well, whichever gang it was, he'll be able to join them inside. He'll need to.

"didn't blog about my suspicion"
Away from smartly dressed criminals, in a far away land known as the real world, where suspicions were just awaiting confirmation, the general populace know full well that this vile act is nothing but an initiation to get a gang patch.
Something that no amount of family conferences will ever fix.
There is only one Gang in Turangi, and its red.
Heh! My beloved voiced the same thought within hours of the attack, and I must admit I was skeptical.
But now......
There was considerable talk around Turangi on that first night that the Police had a good idea that the 16 year old was responsible. There had been mentioned that there had been a variety of incidents leading up to the campground attack which had brought him to the attention of the cops. One in particular suggested that there were issues around mental health and stability. Most locals are relived that he and his family are recent arrivals from another central North Island city.
I seem to recall too a senior police officer stating that there was "no evidence" of gang involvement in the days following the attack.
Is police criminal intelligence really so poor?
Johnno, Do families gravitate to Turangi because it is close to Rangipo? As they do to Upper Hutt for its proximity to Rimutaka?
Lindsay
Wanganui was a nice town until they upgraded the prison.
Then the whanau moved in to be close.
A gang initiation act? Pure fantasy on your part Lindsay. The article doesn't even mention it.
Molesters are often dealt to in prison and gang members know that.
Product of a sick culture, maybe so. Gang initiation? Pure fantasy.

Yep. Raping a 16 year old will get you into the mob.
Raping a 6 year old? -- we should all be thankful the mob will do what the liberal elites don't have the guts to do
If hes from a gang family he will be protected.
Gangs have been more deviant and sick year after year in this country.
It's time to bring back the death penalty and proper life scentences in this country.
Personally I hope this person get scentenced to preventive detention.
