Earthquake in Wellington

About 7:20 a reasonably strong tremor brought both of the kids running and the dog has gone off into her own tremors and panting. Went for about 6-7 seconds getting stronger but no big jolt. Sam is 13 and that's the worst she has ever felt. Robert says no wonder the people of Christchurch can't sleep.

Update: 30 Km east of Picton 5.7

Reported as "biggest recorded in around twenty years."

Having survived a few big ones, I can say it is never a nice experience!

Wait for the big one.

Meh. It wasn't that big....this time...

What gets me is the evacuation of government buildings that have been a quake risk for decades.

I am staying in an apartment overlooking Nelson docks with my elderlyparents.
Dad and I felt the apartment sway a bit but luckily mum did not notice.
If she had, we would have blamed a passing truck!

A pretty good shake in Mahau Sound: knocked my chess set pieces over and books standing in my office. Worse thing is Daisy the dog taken straight back to Chch earthquakes again, and shook for a good hour afterwards.

Mark, are you a mean chess player? :-)

I used to be Manolo, but I've not played competitively for just about thirty years, and have not had the time to even play socially for about the last decade ... one day though, heaven knows, my brain needs sharpening.
