Consensus on Brash

Isn't it indicative that Labour's cheerleader, The Standard and National's cheerleader, Home Paddock are essentially saying the same thing this morning.

Home Paddock blogs, Most votes are in the middle

The Standard blogs, ....what he’s [Brash] thinking is batshit crazy stuff that most New Zealanders want nothing to do with.

Doesn't that tell you how centrist and similar the two big parties are, no matter how much National protests.

Anyway, no matter. We are about to find out how big "most" is. Helen Clark used to say something at this juncture. But I will refrain.

He will be getting mine if I get back to NZ in time.
BTW, will we see you on the list Lindsay, if offered?
I hope so.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised to see such spectacular failure to get the point. The Green Party also promotes policies that could be called "batshit crazy stuff that most New Zealanders want nothing to do with" - and is called that on right-wing blogs all the time. But the fact is, one person's "batshit crazy" is somewhere between 5 and 10% of the voters' "just what I've been waiting to hear." Most votes may be in the middle, but ACT isn't going to be aiming at the middle.

We're just stating the obivous - parties on either end of the political spectrum have a constituency but it's a minority one.

Around 10% of the vote can't be ignored but nor should it get a disproportionate amount of power.

Brash will be the next Finance minister - with at least 10,
more likely 15 ACT MPs, there will be a clear majority of ACT+National MPs in the next parliament who will support a Key/Brash team over Key/English! That's already clear from they dynuca of they current National caucus.

And given the collapse in the Labour vote and the fracticide on the far left, Brash might well have the numbers to roll not just English but Key as well.

Anon, Brash roll Key? Pass me a Tui.

Key holds all the cards, and he knows it.

Wishful thinking, and I agree, if only.

Brash roll English - very likely.

Brash roll Key? - do the maths. The Don sure will be.

Brash, Key, Clark, National, Labor etc.... it doesn't matter. We have enslaved ourselves to the idea that democracy is about government for the majority. Yet we see the minority party's driving government (people) policy. Excuse me? It really doesn't matter whose cheerleader is saying what. What they are really saying is "thank god we have managed to maintain the facade". Irresponsible government by mediocre people to satisfy the myth that democracy is working.

We need to take care. While Don Brash may dismiss Rodney Hide as toxic to ACT, we do remember how toxic Brash was to ACT votes when he nearly became Prime Minister. Also with "The Hollow Men" and rumours about an affair with a prominent ACT woman, his career the time came to a rapid end.

ACT needs rejuvenation - led by those with a real stake in our long term future. Not a 70-year old living on Big Ben pies in an apartment on Symonds Street.

Don Brash has a big ego problem, thinking that NZ will die without him. He is wrong and that is my opinion.
