National is certainly on the offensive with its employment and welfare reforms, even proposing a law change specifically to benefit producers of The Hobbit; but it faces a new mood of resistance and dissent...
National is on the rampage right now. Many ordinary people continue to live in quiet desperation, struggling daily to stay fed, housed and healthy.
If there is any validity to drawing a parallel between what is happening over The Hobbit and welfare reform, I am encouraged. Most New Zealanders have spurned the unions over the first matter, recognising the real economic and social benefits this and other movies bring to the country. My hope is they will similarly get behind any worthy proposals that the Welfare Working Group produces early next year and reject the 'can't-do' objections from Sue Bradford's shadow group.

Check out Ian Mune on Breakfast 22-10-10, a great summary of the anti union hysteria. Sorry, Paul Henry is not fronting.

I'll believe it when the law is changed to prevent union's economic terrorism - say adding the CTU and all unions (including so-called "student unions") - and their political wings, Labour and the Greens, to the list of proscribed organisations in the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

We are yet to see what they will bring but Don Brash's 2025 taskforce is due to report. We know what is required: nothing more or less than simple turning of the tap for all welfare: from WFF and DBP to Dole and Super - but I bet the current government won't have the guts their either.
hopefully this hobbit affair will raise people's suspicions about more than just movies, and spin off into other areas of production for the econmy, look at the other industry these imbecilic women attacked and the cost to the countrr therein. We have fewer jobs to soak up the welfare dependent all because the likes of Malcolm want to dictate to everybody how they should live work and breathe. Well F-her and those like her, stupid moles
