The Sallies are telling those of us who voted to decriminalise smacking to "move on".
Doesn't look like we have much choice, thanks to National.
What I do have a choice about though is whether I ever donate to the Salvation Army again. I won't. They can just get by with their government bribe money which accounts for 61 percent of their total income.
That's not a private charity. That's an arm of the Ministry of Social Development.
No wonder their theme tune is, "We're all in this together".
Wrong. Count me out.

Lindsay I agree with your comments about the Sallies, particularly when John Key gave them this speech back in March 2007 about the Anti Smacking Bill, before he was PM
"Proponents of the bill say that doesn’t matter; that in reality no one is ever going to be prosecuted for lightly smacking their child. But if the reality is that no one is ever going to be prosecuted for lightly smacking their child, then don’t make it illegal. Don’t make it a crime.
It’s poor law-making to write a very strict law and then trust the police and the courts not to enforce it strongly. The law shouldn’t depend on which police officer or which judge or which jury you happen to get on the day.
As I said before, the way you send a message is to make the law clear and precise and then to police it strongly and vigilantly. Here, we are doing the complete opposite. We are making the law fuzzy and vague – given the confusing statements of various MPs – and expecting the authorities not to enforce it."
I had a friend in need some years ago who turned to the Sallies for help.
The "Help" ended up raping her.
The Sallies can go to hell for all I care.
Dirk
They have been on the 'Bugger off' list for some time now.
Admittedly 'bugger off' is my default setting!
People forget they are a religious sect as well and think they just do good works for people They have long pushed very illiberal agendas across the board. They are bad on economic freedom and bad on civil liberties. As such they get zero from me.
I stopped giving money to the Salvation Army a few years ago after learning they had settled with victims of a convicted paedophile from its own ranks.
The poor buggers have lost the plot altogether.
We should all stop donating to the organisations that took this stance.
I stopped my donation to Barnardos because they campaigned so hard to Vote Yes.
Anon 8:02, ditto to Barnardos. I had a monthly direct cedit set up to them which I cancelled. But now I realise that it doesn't matter. They will get it via my families taxes anyway. Barnardos gets 64% of its funding from government.
More and more powerless we are as govt grows. Sometimes through channels that are not very visible.
Barnardos
Plunket
Save the Children
Salvation Army
will never get any voluntary funding from me; there are plenty of genuine worthy causes to give to.
Who else should be on the blacklist?
7 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:
8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Charities should be funded by charitable donations, not taxes. All government funding to these organisations should stop. If they can't raise enough from cake stalls then have less fancy Head offices and Directors who are not on six figure salaries.
Top brass at Sally Army use the Koro Club you know.
As they say "Rank has its privileges"

And why not? Whether a sect or a charity, the sallies have large projects all over NZ. Their Colonels and Generals deserve to be able to travel quickly and easily
More to the point - either AirNZ is donating it to the sallies, or they are paying for it themselves. Either way, what is it to do with you - other than the politics of envy?
"What is it to do with you?"
I am a stakeholder. Albeit an unwilling one.

Anon....that thing Lindsay just handed you...thats your arse.
;-)
As a Salvationist, it was interesting to read your thoughts, Lindsay.
