Tell Clark and Key you will not give them airtime if they refuse to participate in a debate with the leaders of other minor parties. Don't let them run the show. This is exactly why New Zealanders voted for MMP. Because they wanted the diversity and representation that the two main parties couldn't deliver. Stand up to Clark and Key and make it known you are. Who knows what it would do for your reputation and ratings. Show us why private ownership in the media is so important.

No, I'm happy to see Clark and Key square off without distractions from the minor players.
Wouldn't private ownership mean that because TV3 can't see a quid in it, they are telling you what they think, and they are free to think it?
Some-one has to reduce democracy to a profit proposition for them to take interest. Isn't that a weakness of the free market? However, there may well be a money angle to exploit, so I'm not saying it cannot happen.
So surely, all effort should be targeted at the state owned television services. They should be more interested in democracy, since they can use tax payer funds to absorb any potential revenue loss. Go demand "fairness" from them. It's the thing that socialism pays for when the free market fails.
(And I say this as a typically right wing kind of person).
On another matter, it is worth ranting that placing ridiculous expenditure limits on party broadcasting, or providing government funds based on previous proportionate results is probably not too democratic, and the EFA and political party funding legislation isn't helpful for finding alternatives.
Personally I think Key and Clark are right....a multi party leaders debate is a waste of time and poor tv.....no one can state their case with detail.....one to ones or 4 at most are the way to go....

Why would I want to hear what the minority parties say? Most of them voted for the EFA which stifles freedom of speech - and now they want a bit of free advertising. Clark and Key can square off against each other as much as they want, but I don't think that many will be swayed by either Helen's vitriol or Keys' uncertain manner. Most people have already made up their minds.
Fortunately, Lindsay, the kind of person who supports ACT is the kind of person who goes to find out for him/herself what the parties stand for.
