"We should be getting away from the idea that whenever we have a problem in life we turn straight to government. It infantilises us and destroys our 'can do' spirit."

It is not in the interest of a Government to have can-do voters. We almost need a Trojan Horse polly that gets there by telling us what we want to hear, and then doing what needs to be done. Ah, Roger, we miss you :)
"We should be getting away from the idea that whenever we have a problem in life we turn straight to government."
Something people in this country would do well to heed.
I am continually astounded that people in a country that was founded by hardened pioneers with fiercely independent spirits who achieved so much now feel they need to get the govt to tell them to do almost everything before they will do it. Even something as obvious as saving their money. Where has the backbone of the country gone? Or do we need to ask the govt to provide us with one?
