Another day, another yawn

Did you know that, "Low self esteem is having catastrophic results in today's society"?

That's why we need....wait for it...... an International Self Esteem Day supported by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. And it's today!

Personally I would have substituted 'low self esteem' with socialism, feminism, or any other form of forced collectivism. Then we could have a really interesting sort of day like an "International F--- Feminism Day".

The organiser of this esteemable event is a woman called Janice,"the lady with 'nice' in her name" so she says. The only thing I have got in my name is 'itch'. Ooooh. Now I feel really bad about myself.

As long as the woord you are thinking of isn't 'Witch'. Seems Judith Tizard doesnlt like being likened to a witch.

But she does like reading glossy magazines. Probably looking for knitting patterns.

On the TV this morning, she said that you can improve your self-esteem by purchasing a bunch of flowers for yourself.

Now that is helpful advice. I wish I had heard that before I went in for all that understanding the world I live in, overcoming challenges, taking risks, and striving to achieve goals nonsense.

I would argue that it is excessive and unwarrented self-esteem that is causing the problems!

An "itch ... an international F... Feminism day." Sexualising it Lindsay?
I always thought self esteem was to do with 'doing competently that which others valued & by so doing, esteem accrued.'
But buying yourself a bunch of flowers? Looking at yourself in the mirrorr each morning & stating, "you're a beautiful person...." Such self aggrandisement is a bit of a worry, a little too much akin to 'loss of contact with reality,' getting just a bit too close to a community mental health order. Mind you I always thought the difference between the chamber of commerce & a nutter was apiece of rice paper.

Mojo, Sexualising? Say 'itch' to any parent of primary school children and ask them what they think of:-)

Aucklanders are not known for lack of self esteem....

Buying myself a bunch of flowers and saying how wonderful I am seems somewhat narcissistic to me. I leave that to all those people who worship me.
