It's enough to make you scream

If I read this claim one more time I will scream (while it's still legal).

Repeal of Section 59 will lead to a reduction in domestic violence in New Zealand, domestic violence experts say. "By making violence illegal we can help families to live free of violence and this has got to be good for the whole community."

This from the National manager of National Network of Stopping Violence Services.

Rape is illegal, burglary is illegal, bashing women is illegal, arson is illegal.

And they are all on the wane, right?

You missed Drink Driving as the one which is the most wide ranging illegal activity through all of society.

People like Sue Bradford and her supporters are zealots and ideological nut cases.

I used to know some bikies "If a woman hits a man, she plays by a mans rules". Groups have their own subculture

I know! Why don't we make it illegal to be a bad person! Then everyone will be good!!!!

I'm with you Lindsay. If I see it again I'll scream too.

Lindsay, you know that, for politicians, is not about being rational.
Their objective is control of the population. Economic (tax), Physical (photo ID, S59 etc) and Thought Control.
The latter through the education system that stifles non-conforming ideas.
You do fantastic work in highlighting the vagaries of Social Policy, but the politicians (& their groupies) agenda is not the same as yours so they will never be swayed by your arguement.

Having thought about this a bit, I think Bradford's zeal to repeal is nothing more than wanting to stamp her (therefore the Grens) mark on the NZ legal system as the ultimate vindication of being involved in a system she has formerly declared she wanted to bring down. She knows politics very well, probably better than most, but wants to warp it to fit her ideology by any means she can get away with. I think she spoofed the "Death threat" in a shrewd political ploy. She is wrong and I absolutely reject her socialist goals and hope that her family can stand-up to close scrutiny because I am sure some in-dept "research" is being conduct; I suggest a "BRADFORDWATCH" blog be created.

To be fair, if rape, burgulary, assault and arson were all legal we might expect to see a reduction if they were made illegal, which is a more accurate comparison than yours.
