Stick to core business

While people are struggling to pay outrageous rate increases we get a councillor sticking her oar into what is not a local government issue. Who pays for the time she spends lobbying other councils and government? Replication of activity has a cost.

A Porirua City councillor is calling for councils to take a stand against violence towards children, starting with her own council.

On Wednesday, Sue Dow will move a motion that the council support a bill currently before Parliament. Section 59 of the Crimes Act bans the smacking of children.

Ms Dow says Porirua has always been a trail-blazer among local authorities and it should lead the way on this issue too.

Ms Dow needs to stick to council business.
Using ratepayer's money to push her personal agenda is corrupt behaviour.

my council runs radio ads to inform us the community grant budgets still has money in it to give away and to apply for it.

::sigh::

This is the council that is spending $17.5 Million on a sports and leisure centre because they have let the old one get into disrepair. We already have the highest rates per dollar of any council in our region.

Now we are paying for political lobbying as well........

That really sucks

I always wondered why Porirua had the highest rates in New Zealand - then I realised it was because my fellow citizens kept electing morons.
