Spend, spend, spend!

Having made an oral submission opposing the establishment of the Families Commission, every so often I have a look at their website to see what they are up to. Not a lot. Here is their latest piece of earth-shattering research. Remind me again how much they cost us? $7 million a year. What a waste of money.

"However, around half of the 1,000 people who were surveyed said they would like to spend more time with family and with close friends.

Of those who were single about two-thirds said it was because they hadn't met anyone they wanted to get involved with"

Speaks for itself really.

The report is just dumb. Since people are free to enter or leave relationships pretty much as they wish then the fact that they are still in one indicates they are happy enough to stay. When they become very unhappy they leave. So all this is saying is that people in relationships are in them because they are happy enough with them to stay. Anyone could have said that without a study or a report.
