A back-handed compliment from the local MP

Tweeted from the Muriel Hopper Art Award.

Not a big fan of Trevor Mallard's politics but he's not a bad art critic!

This is a tiny painting so forgive me for the imperfection inherent in the features. Even with my glasses on, getting a minuscule portion of pigment in the right place is a challenge. It's based on a black and white photo c 1909. More of these wonderful photographic portraits are becoming available on-line as copyrights expire.

Had convivial conversations with both the Labour and National MPs in attendance.  What I really enjoyed was talking to Jane Clifton. I'm a big fan and said so. The humour, humility and earthiness exuded in her writing and radio appearances is utterly genuine.

Well I'm not a fan of Mallard's politics, but I think you can paint.

Conclusion: you can paint.

Love your art and politics too.
If someone complains about your political thoughts at least you know they are listening. And change needs to have listening.

So, will you run for the leadership of the Conservatives?

Can't really agree about Jane Clifton -I think that she has run out of ideas although I have to say that her latest column highlights the survey that has been done by Colmar Brunton on local bodies and I can't think of anyone else who has even mentioned the really sad conclusions it has found. The Listener is desparately in need of a makeover with some new and better balanced columnists-many are well past their use-by date!
