It really is a good example of the tyranny of low expectations. If we always excuse bad behaviour based upon a narrative of victimhood, then that’s all they will aspire to.

It’s the compassion that kills.

Reading the underlying report it seems the things that drive the report are:
- being known to the police for violence
-Single parent (BIG time risk factor)
- mother under 25 years old
-benefit receipt
- and being a drug user and mental health.

I think at least 4 if not all five of these risk factors are all much more common among Maori parents. So it looks like lifestyle explains their higher rates, not disproportionality.

Strange how child abuse is very low in migrant communities with similar translocation issues and similar socio-economic status. Methinks MSD simply don't want to mention the elephant in the room.
