Gordon Campbell: Deliberately misleading the public?

In last week's Hutt News Gordon Campbell, doyen of the left, wrote the following article (not on-line unfortunately):




My attention was immediately caught by the quote in the fourth paragraph. It is reasonably well-known that NZ's elderly are relatively well-off. So the quote he used surprised me and warranted further investigation. Here is what I found:

His column must appear in all the District local papers, certainly the Kapiti Observer. I seldom read it as it is so left wing.
I think he has taken the top ten from the NBR richlist and compared it to the NZ stock exchange but most of the top ten have their holdings in overseas companies and pay little tax in NZ. Graham HART and Owen GLEN being but two.
