PM says Coastal Coalition " misleading" people

Wrangling over the Coastal and Marine Bill continues. Audrey Young reports on ACT " boasting" about achieving a clause out of Finlayson that states access to beaches will be "free".

And here (47:50)the Prime Minister tells a caller to NewstalkZB that Hugh Barr of the Coastal Coalition is intentionally or otherwise misleading people about what the legislation will mean.

Key maintains that deals labelled "backroom" are no different to what property developers already pursue through local councils for example. The new legislation simply means that when the government won't cede to Maori claims they can then proceed to court.

I am not sure who to believe.

It doesn't matter who to believe Lindsay. All you need to do is scrap the legislation and allow Iwi to test their claim in court like any other New Zealander could do.

You don't need legislation to give property rights. Simple.

Why are ACT bragging about restricting people's property rights? Honestly, they have no principles left.

Key has little or no credibility left.

This is the same man who promises no higher taxes and has hiked ACC levies and GST.

Neville Key is a proven liar.

Of course property rights are paramount but I don't want to see them traded at the government's behest. And if Maori can prove customary title in court they have every right to restrict access if they so wish. Blair, Isn't it finger in the wind politicking with ACT? I recall Gerry Eckhoff staunchly defending the rights of farmers to stop strangers trampling all over their land (though in practice most do allow access to rivers).

"ACT is the only party that backs private property rights 100 percent."

Yes....I've thought ACT had this wrong for awhile now and its sad they have flip flopped on principle. If Maori are the lawful owners of a piece of property then of course they should be able to charge for access to it....like any other property owner can.

Theres no right to go to a beach that belongs to someone else.Have ACT caved into this envious, socialist-Kiwi crap about a "right to wander" anywhere in NZ? Sorry but a civilised society is one of private property rights and if you don't own it then stay out.
