Absenteeism. It's long been the bane of employers.
Lost productivity. The direct and indirect impact on profit.
Paying people to do nothing.
The impaired mental health and motivation of absentees.
Now suddenly it is the saviour. Now it is to be encouraged.
And on the tenth day God ... sorry, government, created a hand-out.

This is so wrong, first it is an added cost to the tax payer, second it does nothing to improve productivity, third businesses with fewer than 100 employees who have little "fat" to cope with the downturn and who comprise the vast majority of NZ businesses are excluded.
What should happen is that workers work a full ten day week but only get paid for nine days. A 10% pay cut is better than no job.

Its all to complicated for my simple mind.
A fair days wages for a good days work I reckon.
