Hot off the press

Check out the graphs below and understand why many New Zealanders get very frustrated about people being described as living 'in deprivation' in this country.

People living in the most deprived areas are the heaviest smokers, drinkers and eaters. The just-published New Zealand Health Survey proves it. Another fine example of how leftists have inverted the meaning of words.

The most fascinating aspect of these graphs is the alcohol one. Male drinking is fairly constant across class lines, but only the most deprived women strive to match them.

Maybe the key to a prosperous society is sober women and drunk men? :oP

Lindsay - I deal with people like thi s every day. All claiming no money to pay rent but spending $50-$100 a week on cigarettes. Losers.

There is only one solution to this problem:

abolish the benefit and the DBP.

then if people want to drink or smoke they can work.

or they can starve - it's up to them.

and any intervention will only make things worse

I am starting to think more like that myself. Stuff them. It is so easy to see which ones are lazy rip-off merchants. The frontline staff at local WINZ offices know them by name.

Unfortunately, until the government of the day initiates a drastic welfare reform (which as we know it's highly unlikely to happen), we'll continue to see this sort of statistics.

Personally, I don't have a problem with assisting people in real need, but I'm sick of paying for the bludgers, the lazy ones, the true losers in life.

I work in South Auckland and see the welfare damage on a daily basis. The most unfair (to the lower paid workers) and corrupt practice that could be devised by any govt.
Without the tools for change such as citizen's binding referendum as in Switzerland, right now the chance's of change look pretty slim.

So education counts.
It's a real pity that that institution has been in demise for so many years and blindly continues without hindsight, foresight or insight.
The remedy will be a long time in the making.
