"Welfare state 'never designed for the middle class' - Dame Jenny"

"Welfare state 'never designed for the middle class' - Dame Jenny"

Tell that to the present National Government Jenny.

Just off the top of my head, the party you once led has, in government:

1/ extended Paid Parental Leave
2/ increased GP subsidies for under 13s
3/ retained no-interest student loans and;
4/ retained Working For Families

...and does corporate welfare qualify as middle-class welfare? Because there is no shortage of that under National either.

National has become so centrist it is now almost indistinguishable from Labour.

That's bad for democracy. There is no point in having a vote if there is no feasible way to use it to advance smaller government and greater freedom.

yeah, yeah, but Shipleys gray chain keeps on keeping on.
Bolger and Shipley and Richardson are responsible for 20 years of lousy performance of the NZ economy.

Somethings up. Last week Bolger told us they were wrong. this week Shipley is telling us we needed more so expect Ruth all Mouth no trousers to front up and tell us we all need to sell out like her dairy co to the chinese.

If we want smaller gov't , more freedom, then the voters also are going to want that, but that is not what is happening. It seems to me that the majority of people want a socialist, nanny state, a gov't that watches over us like protective parents. A gov't that sets boundaries for us, that will wipe our backsides and wipe our noses for us, all paid for by someone else. I think that the Nats have gone left because that is what their polling tells them that is what people want. I don't think that is wrong.

They have gone left because they are spineless cowards, traitors and losers.

Of course the vote will move left when there is no one advocating an alternative path.

And bringing in legions of immigrants (who eventually become voters) from countries where socialism and dependency are deeply embedded is no help either.

NZ's culture and the whole country has been changed for the worse, sacrificed at the alter of un-affordable socialism, and there is nothing to do about it other than plan for the coming Venezuela style disintegration.
