She writes:

The major piece of evidence Family First use to back up their claims? Child poverty has risen significantly since the 1960s, and more people were married back then. I am paraphrasing, but that's the general gist. And yes, those two pieces of information are true. But are they linked?

Ha ha, those crazy right-wingers, look at this strawman! Well played there. Only, towards the end of the article she herself answers the question "But are they linked?", in this paragraph:

So what about the other claims in the report? How about "51 per cent of children in poverty live in single-parent families". Stating the obvious, surely. Single parent equals single income.

Yes, Jacinda - stating the obvious. And also answering your question "But are they linked?" with the answer "Yes, they are." So why did you write this article?Psycho Milthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00779500926576047736noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19962237.post-28772164641405291532016-06-11T18:32:03.642+12:002016-06-11T18:32:03.642+12:00"She is free to chart her own destiny, free f..."She is free to chart her own destiny, free from male domination and subjugation."

Not a Muslim then?

Be of good cheer Lindsay, when the lefties rubbish anything it means that the anything was probably sound and sensible.

3:16Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19962237.post-69429709647335934392016-06-11T16:10:37.246+12:002016-06-11T16:10:37.246+12:00Lindsay
The Sunday Star Times refusal to publish ...Lindsay

The Sunday Star Times refusal to publish your rebuttal does more to explain the mess we are in than Jacinda Ardern’s denial of the facts.

There are some realities that cannot be discussed in our liberal world of moral equivalence. I suspect the Times would rather have published a cartoon of Mohammad than give your arguments any oxygen.

Your offence has been to point out that not all family structures produce the same outcomes. How could that possibly be true when we have been deconstructing the natural family for decades as a matter of ideological urgency? Isn’t the solo mother supported by the State much better off not being economically dependent upon a man? She is free to chart her own destiny, free from male domination and subjugation.

Hers is a dream realized.

You are a woman caught in an act feminist betrayal with no one to rescue you. If a man had made these assertions he could have easily been dismissed. Just the rantings of another misogynist.

I’m not sure if the feminists enforce their blasphemy laws in the same way as other identity groups, but be assured, you have been tried and found guilty.
Brendan McNeillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02741263914308842497noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19962237.post-16204642599613763632016-06-11T09:46:53.493+12:002016-06-11T09:46:53.493+12:00The only thing to blame Richardson for is that she...The only thing to blame Richardson for is that she didn't go anywhere near as fast and hard as she needed!

That's why the only Real welfare reform can be immediate cancellation - and every benefit incl super & state schools & hospitals must just be defended overnight in one swift move. Marriage has not been proposed ...Jacinda is a gem.
Marriage has not been proposed as a treatment or cure for family poverty, but its existence means two adults are in one house to bring up the children. Big financial advantage .
It is not just the financial advantage, it is the massive emotional and social advantage to the child.
All this is common sense to most people. Since the 1970's the evidence has mounted up to support what seemed naturally true. Children do better with two parents.
Its hard to believe any person could argue otherwise. But, we have Jacinda.
Jacinda is a gem.
After Labour lose the 2017 election, she may well become leader.
If so that's a guarantee the election at 2020 will also be a loss for Socialism, Labour and Green.
paul scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15675247055484136242noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19962237.post-78085801651625111672016-06-10T19:43:25.938+12:002016-06-10T19:43:25.938+12:00Still blaming Ruth Richardson - this after 9 years...Still blaming Ruth Richardson - this after 9 years of a Labour government-incredible!Jigsawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13906156865367357834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19962237.post-91871456710018024722016-06-10T09:42:42.020+12:002016-06-10T09:42:42.020+12:00Excellent response. I suspect another strong (nega...Excellent response. I suspect another strong (negative) correlation with 'child poverty' is economic productivity. In 1960 we had one of the highest real GDP per capita figures in the world and now we are about 20% below the OECD average (see this NZ Initiative report: http://nzinitiative.org.nz/site/nzinitiative/files/GDP_per_capita.pdf). The period of the Bolger-Richardson Government, which Ahern so condemns, saw a recovery from a sharp downward trend since 1960 and the curve has remained more-or-less flat since, with a small upturn since the Key Government was elected in 2008. Government support was slashed,

If only, if only! If that had happened we would be in this mess, there wouldn't be any children in wrlfare-supported child poverty!

We can end this tomorrow by finishing the job: ending welfare (including free Heath, free evhools, free doctors - the whole mess!). Just one order in council is all it would take.

Flat-eathers and chemtrail or anti-vaccine lunatics are pilloried in NZ.
