Growing up

Kittens are born...and the next minute they are ready to leave home, or their drawer. One is still looking for a someone who will love and care for it. We simply cannot keep another. Four cats is absolutely enough. Anyway, I can't get any more food in the shopping trolley. An old Geordie gent tapped me on the arm this morning, pushing my piled high trundler out of Woolies, "Back agin t'morrow, will 'e?"

Cuddly kittens today, Bird killers tommorrow.

Bird killers or evolution's handmaidens? It all depends on your perspective. Ever since Hitchcock I can't stand those birds anyway.

Dirk, my car runs into and kills more birds on my trips to and from work than my cats ever did.
perhaps we should give up driving?

Besides--cats help the bird species by culling out the weak and the sick. :-)

There was a classic case of humans thinking they know better many years ago, when falcons which preyed on native pigeons in Europe were culled in order to "save" the pigeons.
Turns out the falcons were targeting the slowest pigeons--which were suffering from an epizootic disease.
The falcon cull resulted in a dramatic drop in pigeon numbers due to the consequent spread of the disease...

Anyone want to share a saucer of milk?

Last available kitten went to new home today.

KG, One day one of our cats dragged a kereru through the flap. It was alive and unscathed; not a mark on it, leading us to conclude it was sick and therefore easy game. After sitting on David's knee for a period, it shuddered and keeled over. I took it to the local marae where it was accepted most warmly. Your comment about culling sick birds reminded me of this episode.

Dirk, I'm not a milk drinker and bubbles would dissipate far too quickly in a saucer.

I'd like to help but the boss wouldn't have a bar of it ... she swears and carries on at any visiting feline, particularly the one who sneaks in and steals her food. A stroppy so-and-so who even swears at me when I chase him off.

What a delightful pair - they look to be great little friends. One year at Easter our cat did kill a rabbit and left it on the front doorstep - tough job explaining that one to the children!

That's fantastic Lucy. Good for you. It must have taken something special just to come through.
