Police downplay rising crime

The June quarter crime statistics have just been released and they aren't good. What irks me no end is the spin the police put on them.

There were 442,540 recorded offences compared with 426,690 for last year, an increase of 3.7 percent. During this time New Zealand's resident population increased by approximately one percent. So, the recorded offence rate per head of population increased by only 2.8 percent.

'Only' be damned.

That's 15,850 more offences. Many, many more victims of crime.

It is the job of the police to prevent crime, not to normalise or downplay it.

But the good news was that revenus from traffic fines increased exponentially.

There is increasing pressure for Local policing solutions.
Perhaps this is getting a little scary. I hope so.

I had a chat to the police on this.. they said that there has been a slight increase in crime. When I pointed out that there is about an increase of nearly two offenses every single hour of every single day, and why his media release did not express concern, he rudely hung up.

One of our local officers went to the Solomon Islands to join the United Nations Peacekeeping force there.
Lasted two weeks and had a nervous breakdown. He Is now back home patroling the mean streets and we all sleep easier.

I would also add sending inocent people to jail to assist the crime statistics in favour of the police has some merit in the short term. But..............
