Sickness and Invalid benefits keep climbing

Ministry of Social Development has just released benefit stats for year ending March 2006. DPB is down 2,300 but Invalid and Sickness benefits are up 4,400. Some single parents will have transferred onto these benefits.

Obviously welfare is bad for your health. Maybe warning stickers should be placed on every WINZ workers forehead.

I have friends with a 24 year old son who has been on the unemployment benefit since he left school at about fifteen years of age(with a few breaks to go on various pointless courses and some time at Her Majesty's pleasure). He is now on the sickness benefit. I am not sure what category of sickness he has. He spends all day working on his van, lugging engine parts around his parents garage. He looks pretty fit to me.

Brian, He's probably got RSI from lugging around engine parts.
