"Economy stationary as Govt fails to prepare NZ"

I dyslexically misread this headline from John Key as
"Economy stationary as Govt prepares to fail NZ"
then I thought, it amounts to the same thing anyway.

Though that article is suspicious anyway. It shows National is similarly motivated to Labour's view of "the Government is responsible for the economy".

Labour is not responsible for any downturn, just like it wasn't responsible for the boom. It's just politically fruitful to blame it on them. The downside is they can take credit for the booms (because it's a bit rich to blame them for a downturn but call it luck that the economy was booming, though they still do it), they can blame your Government when you face bad times and most importantly you're abandoning your philosophy.

I do blame the govt for not taking advantage of the economic "boom" we've had. There are many more jobs around now than there were 5 years ago but they persist in paying out benefits unecessarily. And there are many other ways in which they have taken us backwards hence our drop down the economic freedom scale. Govts don't create wealth but they can destroy it.
